We did a little wardrobe check and realized that after years of constantly culling our t-shirt drawer, we finally managed to cut eliminate all the t-shirts we never wore…leaving none. Time to replenish.
So how about a little neighborhood pride, show the colors: a Wallingford t-shirt? Molly Moon’s has been selling a simple and attractive design for some time now, just the word Wallingford with a star. The Wallingford Chamber of Commerce also has plans underway for a t-shirt in time for summer (to be sold at local stores, art walk, etc.) so we’ve offered to join our efforts together.
But what should it look like? That’s where you come in (because, hopefully, you’ll be the ones sporting the threads). We had a Wallingford designer draw up some mock-ups, below. Take a look, and vote for the one or ones you like. Feel free to vote for multiple designs (but not multiple times), or, if we’re totally headed out in the wrong direction, or you’ve got a better idea, let us know in the comments! This is a process, people, a process.
To me the t-shirt designs are missing one of the best attributes of Wallingford, especially now. The color, flowers, gardens, uniqueness and personality. Personally I don’t get the “wallingford rising” and the harsh grey outline of a fist seems more gang like than our neighborhood.

I can’t say I’m stoked about any of those. Here are a couple of simple ideas I threw together this morning. The typeface is based on the FOOD GIANT sign.
when I think of the hood, I think of gasworks, but I also don;t like the fist. I don’t get the fist or the “rising”
I would like just the kite on the hill w/out the fist and just “wallingford”
also, I would like a nice thick hoodie sweatshirt so I could wear it on said hill more than 30 days out of the year!!
😉
so – i vote no to all of them
Much like recent elections, these candidates aren’t that spectacular.
Looks like nobody much likes our fist / rising idea. It was intended as a sort of joke: juxtaposing revolutionary imagery with the peaceful idyllic image of a kite flier at Gasworks. Similar idea to the “Free Ballard” stickers (quiet, friendly Ballard as country trying to throw off shackles of tyranny and oppression) and our Wallingford Secedes post.
But, if you have to explain a joke, it’s probably not that funny.
Shout out to all graphic artists: ideas wanted!
I really love the Cakespy artwork you posted awhile back:

I know it smacks of commercialism (i.e. QFC, and we all have a love-hate with that place), but Cakespy created that image with style and grace, capturing the heart of Wallingford while omitting the worst part of that store.
I’d love something like that. Maybe it’s too much to depict us all as cupcakes, but the essence of dogs, family, and kids outside of the big Wallingford sign instantly warmed my heart.
Maybe your graphic designer should depict us as spoons since there seems to be an influx of gelato stands lately. 🙂
I’d like the gasworks/wallingford rising shirt if it wasn’t for the fist. Gasworks is a nicely iconic part of Wallingford for me.
Oh! I am SO excited for this. I tried to buy that Molly Moon’s shirt for my husband a few times and was told it was no longer in stock and they weren’t ordering more (this was in March, and haven’t seen it since). Also, I tried to buy one off of neighborhoodies but it took them MONTHS and I finally cancelled my order. So, I don’t care WHAT it is, I will buy it.
Hope it’s not too late to comment, but I also like the kite flier at Gasworks, but without the fist or the Wallingford rising slogan. Doesn’t Mosaic display art by independent artists a lot? I wonder if someone there would have ideas —Â
Ultimately, I love the idea, though!
I happen to LIKE the Gasworks Rising shirt!
