In response to our recent post about bird houses we had happened past, Mimi claimed another piece of outdoor art that we’ve always admired, this one in front of 2308 N 41st Street. The organic, rolling feel fits in perfectly with the rhododendron, cherry and other trees curling around it.
While out art-spotting, we also passed this bit of oddness at 43rd Ave and Burke:
And were honestly left wondering whether to classify this one as art. We decided yes:
Mimi also pointed us towards SeattleOutdoorArt.com, a compendium of outdoor art from around Seattle (thus, the domain name). We love the idea, the only piece lacking is a Google map of the pieces around Wallingford. We created something like that for couchsurfers / low-budget travelers to Seattle some time ago: Map of Seattle for Couchsurfers.
If we created it for Wallingford art, would people help us fill it in?
That installation at 43rd and Burke also serves as a shrine: I’ve seen candles burning there at least once, and what looked like a death notice from the Vietnam war. It’s worth stopping by to say hello to the incredibly nice orange kitty (and several other cats and one or possibly two dogs as well).
Not public art, but Seattle Municipal Archives posted a great old shot of the house next door not too long ago: http://www.flickr.com/photos/seattlemunicipalarchives/3328208255/
Count me in!
