Hoyt spotted it earlier this week: the new Adopt-A-Street signs are up (see Adopt-A-Street, EWHA Represent and Clean-Up Report for prior stories). But it looks like the East Wallingford Hot Tub Association isn’t alone in getting some of the action:
Coincidentally, we just got a note from Senor Tyler today:
your article a while back on adopting a street inspired my roommate and I to adopt our own! So we adopted 45th between the 5 and Stoneway. I’d be lying if I said we did it for purely altruistic reasons…. mainly I just wanted to see my name on a giant sign on the coolest street in Seattle! haha.
When the signs do go up, I want to organize a big clean-up and get the entire neighborhood involved. I was thinking of something like a meet-up at Diva Espresso where we all could get a discount on coffee, then clean 45th exceptionally well, and then perhaps get a local Wallyhood bar to sponsor us, so that all the volunteers could meet-up after the clean-up for some discounted brews? Homeowners who need professional floor cleaning services san diego may contact companies like Local Floor Cleaner. Those who need window cleaning services may contact professionals here.
This jogged our memory that Janet Stillman of the Wallingford Neighborhood Office is driving a Spring Clean, as well:
The Neighborhood Office is heading up Spring Clean 2009 for Wallingford. The date is the weekend after Earth Day and Arbor Day, which is April 25th.
We are hoping that all the various Wallingford Groups will want to participate. There is no cost to you, just your time and energy. We are looking for several people who would like join me on the committee that makes this all happen.
[…]The city will provide: planning assistance, tools, litter pick-up bags, waste pick ups, grabbers, gloves, and safety vests for those working in/on streets and ramps.
The East Wallingford Hot Tub crew will be cleaning our streets that day, the Neighborhood Office will be directing volunteers to other spots around the neighborhood, and perhaps the Senores will join the fun?
If you’re interested in coming out on April 25th and cleaning, it sounds like there will be many groups to join. Contact Janet Stillman at [email protected] to volunteer or watch these pages for more info on where to show up.
And we love the idea of local businesses pitching in with discount coffee or beer for the volunteers. If there’s interest in a pre- or post-clean-up meet-up, we’ll make the calls (or if there’s a Wallingford business owner reading that wants to step up, drop us a line: [email protected]).
Thanks for pulling this all together for the ‘hood, Wallyhood!
I’d love to see Dick’s adopt 44th – 46th from eastern to 3rd and pick up the half ton of burger wrappers and fry bags fourd there (including our front yard) every weekend morning
I’ll second what Dave said. I’m in that area and am constantly picking up burger wrappers & empty ketchup containers. It seems that much of what I see is dragged in & shredded by the crows. I would like to see Dicks do more to contain their garbage so the birds can’t get to it.
So glad Wallyhood is on top of the issues! I returned from my morning Woody-walk with the question: ¿Quienes son los Señores?, and Wallyhood has answered at least half of that. I’m all up for clean-up work, but wonder if there should be some sort of Wallyhood group? I love the idea of starting at Diva and ending at . . . somewhere (Murphy’s? Changes? The Moon Temple?)
….Murphy’s for a Bacon Blue Burger… great idea!
Wow. 45th from 5 to Stone is a BIG job. Thanks, Senores!
