Seems like everyone wants to double-down on their urban farms. Lettuce and pole beans aren’t enough anymore: the modern urbanite need bees, chickens and goats! We have a standing offer out to help any neighbor set up a bee hive in their back yard, and this Saturday, April 11 at 10:00 am, Seattle Tilth at the Good Shepherd Center is offering a class on raising chickens in your back yard:
You will learn the most important considerations in caring for baby chicks, including chicken physiology, behavior, health, nutrition, housing and city regulations. This class also covers the wide variety of chicken breeds. Questions are encouraged. You will leave this class with everything you need to know to start raising chicks.
Cost: $30 for Tilth members, $40 for non-members. Advanced registration is required.
Register on the class page or see their City Chicken FAQ.
