Looks like Archie McPhee’s is making progress getting their new Wallingford digs ready for their grand opening:
Ian, in an e-mail entitled “Act of War”, suspects there’s more to this psychopathic decorators:
the paint job that has been done to the old liquor store by Archie McFee is wonderfully awful. I’m not sure if they were going for a McDonalds theme or was is just French’s Yellow with Ketchup Red. The colours are so vivid and saturated it is actually distracting as I drive past. I can only think this was retaliation for all of the posts made about stealing Ballard’s sandwich shop a month back. I wish I had the money to buy the movie theatre on Market St and paint it purple and pink polka dots….
We’ll take up a collection.
The MyBallard blog also had a recent article on the move: McPhee’s prepares to move a bazillion things.
Never trust someone complaining about something they can’t bother to spell correctly.
…ain’t no “fee”, just the list price…
Anyway, has anyone heard where the liquor store will be?
John, never asked you to ‘trust’ my opinion – what an odd idea. You may have missed the point that my comments weren’t entirely serious. Next time I’ll surround any attempts at humor in tags, it might help clear up some confusion. With this in mind I should also point out that Wallyhood *is not* going to start up a collection to buy the theater on Market St.
Hadn’t picked up on the McDonald’s color scheme — perhaps it’s a tribute to our icky, departed McDonald’s formerly across the street? It sure is eye-catching, though! But what I want to know is why we didn’t do a gigantic “bucket brigade” to help them move their stuff back! Archie’s belongs in Wallingford!
As of right now the state is not planning on opening a replacement store for Wallingford. Word is Archie’s is planning more exterior decorations & they’ll open sometime in June. I heard that plans were in the works for an opening event but what it will be who knows.
What is the over/under on when McPhee’s makes Not A Number go bust? I think Vegas would probably set it at 9 months.
People are so quick to be cynical. Not A Number and Archie McPhee both carry lots of things that the other store does not and I love shopping at both. I think they’ll complement each other and we’ll be lucky to have them both in our own neighborhood.
Not wonderfully awful, just awful.
Just confirmed with the WSLCB that they ARE still looking at a location in Wallingford, but haven’t signed a lease yet.
