Dear Ballard:
How are things? Good, good. Yeah, here too. Uh-huh.
Anyhoo, we were wondering if you would be willing to send Lunchbox Laboratory over to Wallingford? I mean, given that we have Not A Number and we’re getting Archie McPhee’s from you, the whole kitschy-laboratory / 70’s lunchbox theme thing is just a much better fit for us than it is for you, especially the way you have it stashed way up 15th near the Sands strip club.
I know, I know, we have a lot of great places to eat already, like Joule, Sutra, Cantinetta, and Tilth, but we don’t have that many places to just grab a bite. Yeah, sure there’s Dick’s, but the Deluxe is no match for LL’s Dork (Duck-Pork) or Lawrence Velk (Venison-Elk) burgers, and the vegetarian options at Quizno’s just aren’t in the same league as LL’s amazing Red Quinoa-Falafel burger. Oh, and those sweet potato fries, we could eat a bucket of ’em.
We would be willing to make it worth your while. We have more Thai restaurants on 45th alone then you have in your entire neighborhood, and even more places that sell frozen desserts than that (Mooberry? Puh-leeze! It’s frozen yogurt.)
Please, Ballard, don’t make this harder than it needs to be. We have room on our streets and in our hearts for Lunchbox Laboratory. It’s time to let go.
Brilliant idea! Bring Lunchbox Laboratory over to Wallingford and install them in a space that’s at least slightly larger than what they’ve got now. The food is great, but that tiny space where, if it’s the least bit busy, you get to sit with a waiting patron’s bum in your face [or yours in theirs!] is a less than appetizing experience.
i went there early on in their life span. they had a kielbasa and white corn, corn dog. i’ve been back a few times in the past year. and man that guy makes a delicious burger. from what he told me, he used to head the kitchen down at the blue onion bistro.
i love wallingford, but i agree. there isn’t a decent sandwich/burger joint in the ‘hood. i was really hoping for that vacant spot next to not-a-number, would possibly house something along the lines of other coast, lunchbox, or honeyhole. bring back the beeliner!
No.
Dont go knocking Mooberry, I would kill for a good frozen yogurt alternative to Mollymoons. I dont think Kiwi quite cut the mustard – Its a pho shop now
looks like a cuban sandwich shop is replacing the seamonster lounge
Cuban sandwiches? Yum! That sounds like heaven.
Cuban sandwiches? Could it be . . . Paseo?
And hey, if you need a place to stop in for a sandwich, you could do worse than Murphy’s Pub. Good food, great onion rings.
Googling “seamonster lounge cuban” got me to THIS little blog. It looks like they have indeed opened a Cuban kitchen at Seamonster Lounge. Right now it appears that they’re just doing late-night weekend fare, but will soon be serving lunch and dinner.
Incidentally when I walked by Seamonster yesterday it looked like they were doing a little remodel at the bar. This could be a very, very good thing.
A phone call would have gotten you some real information. Owner Simpson has a non-compete for the 45th St. area that prevents him from opening a restaurant here. Fortunately, it expires this year. He’s been actively looking for expansion sites, considering Fremont and the Eastside as well. And he does have his eye on the Beeline/Jitterbug space.
LL is crap and a novelty and way too fricken expensive for mediocre burgers.
Anonymous (#10) is an idiot and does not speak for anyone that’s actually dined at Scott’s Lunchbox Laboratory.
