The Wallingford ENews came out last week, and with it the (unofficial) Wallingford Residential Burglary Report for February, compiled by Dianne Horswill. It notes that total reported car prowls are down to 20 for February, an improvement over previous months (unless, as she notes, you are one of the 20).
Snippets from the blotter, below, include the discovery of a now defunct Wallingford pot farm. Now, with that gone, where are people going to get the Wallingford Waui?
02/06 3900blk Latona NE reported at 2:47PM, the victim discovered that his car had been broken into, it was parked inside the garage in his apt. building
02/09 4000blk 2nd NE reported at 5:05PM, this property went into foreclosure and the tenants were evicted, the new owner had the locks changed, when she arrived to take possession of the house, she discovered the garage broken into and what appeared to be the remnants of a marijuana grow operation in the basement

02/17 4500blk Eastern N. reported at 3:49PM, the owner of the house is away and his house is being remodeled, the person doing the work is living at the house, he said he had a friend visit and when he woke up the next morning he discovered the back door window broken and tools stolen
02/20 400blk NE 44th reported at 2:10AM, the victim lives in a boarding house with 14 other roommates, he discovered that someone had entered his room and stole his digital camera, he says he keeps his door locked, there was no sign of forced entry
The decreased numbers come as little consolation to Kristi, though, who wrote us:
My husband and I moved here (38th and Woodlawn area) less than a year ago, and we just experienced our third busted car window since November. Both of our cars have been hit, and we park on the street right outside our lighted front porch, on a corner with working streetlights. The second time it happened to him, his car was even unlocked. He had no valuables in there, and nothing was stolen. My car got hit sometime Thursday night/early Friday morning. In addition to my broken window, my GPS receiver was stolen. It has probably been sold on Craigslist by now.
Really, if anyone has suggestions, we’re listening.
I was looking into this for baby monitoring, but this would work well for crime deterrance as well (night vision, motion detection, live online feed, recorded video): Panasonic BL-C131A. It is a bit spendy, but an awesome product. -brady – 45th & Latona
Corrected attribution for collating the crime stats. Thanks to Dianne Horswill for the collation and to anonymous tipster for noticing the error.
There have been a number of broken car windows on the 4100 block of Burke over the last year or two. Including two or three over the last few weeks.
If you REALLY want your problem solved, then I have the solution: contact Blackwater and hire a designated marksman with night vision-equipped suppressed sniper rifle. Don’t make my mistake of choosing a .458 Winchester Magnum… too much damage to the car, the house on the next block, etc. Go with the .22 rimfire instead. A shot in the lungs won’t kill ’em, just make ’em sicker than hell. SPD will get the call from Harboview a few hours later, and can pick ’em up from the ER after they’ve been patched up. Or, you could save the money on Blackwater, pick up a used .22 from a local pawnshop, and take out the trash yourself, if you got the guts.
So, do you want the problem solved? Do you, punk?
