Best I can tell, there’s the greatest concert series I never heard of going on at the Good Shepherd Center’s Chapel performance space this month. In this week alone, Thursday (1/15) is the second of three IS THAT JAZZ? festival performances produced by the Seattle Composers’ Salon, Friday (1/16) the Washington Composers’ Forum present the MAD Trio as part of their Transport Series and Saturday (1/17) Seattle Improvised Music puts on an evening of one minute solos to benefit their Improvised Music Festival.
Looking ahead, I see my friend and neighbor Lesli Dalaba playing with Eric Glick-Rieman and Stuart Dempster on Saturday the 24th and the EQLateral Ensemble playing the following Saturday the 31st.
I have to admit the EQLateral Ensemble has held a special place in my heart since the night some three, four years ago at Critical Mass:ive, the NorthWest regional Burning Man-esque weekend event, when I stumbled upon them playing their hypnotic, ethereal and other-wordly brand of electro-classical music on a hilltop on a crisp, star-filled night. The air was so cold it seemed to lend a crystal sharpness to the notes, like something out of Fantasia, and the several dozen of us who were treated to the performance just kept smiling at each other, shaking our heads in disbelief at our good fortune.
Anyway, excuse my hippy trip and go check them out. Local music. Yum. Full details on the above at http://waywardmusic.blogspot.com/.
